#4 The power of saying NO!⛔

let me tell you a story of how I lost $150k and one year of my life because I couldn’t say NO!

a simple no would have saved me:

  • Time
  • My health
  • Money
  • and a lot of unnecessary stress

I’m a genuinely nice guy, I love the company of friends and even strangers. I enjoy humans in general. I also happen to be a chronic people pleaser (something I should work on).

In business, these traits don’t help a lot, you have to be firm and sometimes tough when dealing with people.

Here’s what happened, I had some disposable income that I wanted to invest in a new venture. You know, following the age old advice of not putting all your eggs in one basket.

At the time, the agency was doing really well, it was mostly automated. I had spent the better part of a year hiring and training amazing talent who would execute on the systems we built to run the agency smoothly.

Everything was going according to plan,

Except when I decided to start looking for another stream of income. Not knowing that that venture was going to cause so much damage to my current business.

I ignored the agency and let it run without my involvement. Even though it was mostly automated, the agency still needed me there.

My focus on the other “ventures” I started was damaging my main business.

Stopping the domino effect. Business crisis management. Close-up hand interfering collapsing wooden dominoes on white background. Business strategy and successful intervention. Risk protection.

How? you ask

well, we’re not super heroes in this world and we all have the same 24 hours.

Starting a new business meant that I had to spend most of my time building the foundations and setting up systems, hiring, doing administrative tasks like setting up a company and handling banking…etc

Without forgetting the most important aspect, the initial investment that had to be made.

That time and focus that I took away from my agency depleted my bank account and messed up my focus. I made bad decisions in both businesses and ended up wasting a lot of opportunities.

All of this would have been avoided if I had just said no when my entourage encouraged me to venture and try something “new”.

My advice to you is the following:

  • Try to find pockets of opportunity within your current business
  • Don’t listen to people who don’t have experience in a field
  • Do your due diligence before you invest any of your hard earned money!
  • Very Rarely millions are made within the first year of any given business, you have to give it at least 4 years.
  • Saying no will end up making you money, not the other way around.

Any online based business has the potential to make a LOT of money, so

Don’t just jump and start looking for other opportunities when the obstacles start coming your way.

Don’t make my mistake and say yes to anything.
